Whirlpools: Wisdom to pay attention to
We are a brief presence. She invites us to see ourselves as part of the human journey, and if fortunate delight in each moment as precious, thinking of life as a privilege to be savored.
Those of you who are teachers understand impermanence. Each year students arrive, stay for about 180 days, then depart, you the ‘teacher,’ they the ‘students,’ your roles in the whirlpool. You understand your classroom as a whirlpool in harmony with whatever comes in and goes out. Each year repeats. You are in charge but accept that it’s temporary.
In these troubled times, acceptance of Beck’s metaphor invites us to see ourselves in the big picture. After our time, it will be over for us. That’s how it goes. You could choose despair, or accept it for what it is. Live in it, savor each moment (a challenge for us these days), and depart with a smile. Your choice.
