Frank Thoms wants all students to succeed. He knows that teachers need to be creative. Throughout his book, he urges them to reconsider traditional practices in light of today’s media-driven culture and digitally wired students.

He advocates that teachers not wait for top-down mandates but take initiative to make pedagogical changes on their own. The teacher is best positioned to know her students' needs. Spending time with them alone in her classroom, she can do just that. 

Schools must do better. Rather than focus on improving test scores, Thoms advocates that teachers teach to a child’s whole symphony, to all aspects of her development, not only to one note, success in taking tests. If students only learn to succeed on bubble tests, they will not have opportunities to discover their true potential.
