My Library, a little about me

Feb 27, 2025 by Frank Thoms

Only one has not, Exciting Classrooms: Practical Information for Student Success (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015), is a third-person rendition of Teaching from the Middle of the Room. For the others, it has been as if I was writing my first book. Each one, reflected my thinking about teaching at the time of writing.

I have begun imagining my publications as a library. They revolve around similar themes: the classroom as a learning place for teacher and students, where face-to-face conversations prevail without devices present, where nurturing student agency is central. In generations past, my books would be classified under 370 in the Dewey Decimal System.

Thinking about my library has made me realize that, if we are fortunate, we are able to choose our paths that reflect who we are and are becoming. In my mid eighties, I still support these themes in my writing, most recently in my Substack and here at my blog.
